Complete guide to Zippo maintenance
After many questions about Zippo care, I decided to write this guide. Covering fuel, wicks, flints, and common issues. Feel free to add your tips in replies!
Fuel: Only use genuine Zippo fluid or high-grade naptha. Cheap alternatives damage the insert.
Wicks: Trim and pull up as needed. Replace when it gets too short or burnt.
Flints: Replace when spark weakens. Use Zippo or quality flints only.

The wick tip - I pull mine up with tweezers and trim the burnt part. Gets more life out of each wick.
Important addition: Never overfill! A few drops is enough. Overfilling causes leaks and pocket burns.
For flints, I've found Ronson flints work just as well as Zippo brand and are cheaper. Been using them for years.
I clean my Zippo insert monthly with a soft brush. Removes carbon buildup from around the chimney.
For the case, I use Brasso sparingly on chrome models. Makes them shine like new. But NOT on brass - let it patina!
