Did you know Zippo made their first lighter in 1933 and has a lifetime warranty since then? They still honor repairs from the 1930s!
Yes! The Döbereiner lamp came in 1823, matches in 1826. The chemistry for matches was actually harder to figure out!
IMCO from Austria was so well-made that soldiers preferred them over Zippo in some conflicts. The Triplex design is genius.
S.T. Dupont originally made leather goods for Napoleon III. They only started making lighters in 1941!
Ronson made the first practical pocket lighter in 1913. The Banjo model revolutionized portable fire.
During WW2, Zippo stopped commercial production and made lighters exclusively for the military. Those are highly collectible now.
