Collection insurance - is it worth it?
My collection is now valued at over 1 lakh rupees. Wife is asking about insurance. Has anyone insured their collection? Is it even possible in India?

I don't insure mine - the hassle of documenting and proving value isn't worth it for me. I just keep them secure.
Got a floater policy that covers my collection specifically. Required an appraisal document. Worth the peace of mind.
For 1 lakh, home insurance should cover it as valuables. Above 5 lakhs, you might need special collector's insurance.
Talk to ICICI or HDFC - they have collector item riders. My friend insured his watch collection that way.
I have my premium pieces listed under home contents insurance. Had to provide photos and receipts. Cost about 2000 per year extra.
Most standard home policies have a limit per item. If you have pieces over 25k each, you need to declare them separately.
